The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy announced the allocation of green hydrogen production capacity under the National Green Hydrogen Mission's SIGHT Mode - 2B scheme. A total of 30 Kilo Tonnes Per Annum (KTPA) capacity has been awarded to four refineries across India, with Indian Oil Corporation Limited receiving 10 KTPA at its Panipat refinery, Numaligarh Refineries Limited receiving 10 KTPA at its Numaligarh facility, Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited receiving 5 KTPA at its Bina refinery, and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited receiving 5 KTPA at its Vizag refinery.
The projects are being implemented through Build Own Operate (BOO) arrangements with private developers, with project-specific investments made by the concerned developers. The domestic production and utilization of green hydrogen is expected to reduce India's dependence on imported fossil fuels, enhance energy security, and support the country's clean energy transition and net-zero objectives.
