The National Institute of Homoeopathy (NIH), Kolkata celebrated its Golden Jubilee, marking 50 years of service in homoeopathic education, research, and patient care. As part of the celebrations held on September 3, 2026, the institute inaugurated a state-of-the-art Modular Operation Theatre and a Centre of Excellence, significantly strengthening its clinical, academic, and research infrastructure.
The event was attended by Shri Prataprao Jadhav, Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Ministry of Ayush and Minister of State for Health & Family Welfare, along with Shri Sukanta Majumdar, Union Minister of State for Education. Several Members of Parliament and state legislators, including Jyotirmay Singh Mahato, Samik Bhattacharya, and Sumana Sarkar, MLA from West Bengal, were also present, along with Vaidya Rajesh Kotecha, Secretary of Ministry of Ayush, and other senior officials, faculty members, doctors, and students.
Minister Jadhav emphasized that the new facilities reflect the government's commitment to strengthening Ayush institutions with modern infrastructure, quality education, advanced research capabilities, and improved patient-care facilities. He stressed the need to integrate traditional medicine systems with contemporary technology, research, and innovation to address emerging healthcare requirements. The Minister also highlighted the importance of strengthening homoeopathic education and research while creating greater opportunities for students, researchers, and young professionals.
The newly inaugurated Modular Operation Theatre is designed according to contemporary healthcare requirements and equipped with modern systems, enhancing the institute's capacity to provide advanced clinical services while supporting training and professional development. The Centre of Excellence will further enhance capabilities in clinical research, academic development, and innovation, providing a platform for advancing research, fostering institutional collaborations, and creating enhanced opportunities for students, faculty, and healthcare professionals.
On September 2, 2026, Minister Jadhav also held an extensive interaction with students to understand their views, concerns, and suggestions for homoeopathy development. Students highlighted the academic environment and extensive clinical exposure at NIH, including opportunities to learn from a large and diverse patient base. The discussion covered suggestions for strengthening institutional infrastructure, including a proposed hospital building, animal house, and pharmaceutical analysis laboratory, as well as issues concerning stipends, housestaffship, and the NTET examination.
