The National Zoological Park (NZP) in New Delhi observed World Rhino Day 2026 on September 22 with a series of awareness and educational programs focused on rhino conservation and biodiversity. The centerpiece was the zoo's first orientation program for eco-club in-charge teachers, which saw participation from 12 schools in Delhi. The Director of NZP interacted with the teachers to highlight the importance of strengthening collaboration between the zoo and schools for environmental education.
The orientation familiarized teachers with the zoo's environmental education initiatives, nature-based activities, citizen science programs, and other outreach efforts. It aimed to encourage greater school participation in future workshops and competitions organized around ecological days. Additional activities included a doodle activity and public awareness talk for visitors at the zoo's exit gate, where staff shared information on the ecological significance of rhinos, their conservation status, and challenges faced in the wild.
A special keepers' talk was held at the rhino enclosures, providing visitors with insights into rhino behavior, feeding habits, and daily care. The National Zoological Park currently houses one adult female rhinoceros named Anjuha. The event served as a platform to enhance public awareness about rhino conservation, wildlife protection, and biodiversity conservation.
