The National Zoological Park (NZP) in New Delhi celebrated its 67th Foundation Day on November 1, 2026, with a creative doodle activity for visitors that received enthusiastic participation from approximately 1,500 people. The activity served as an interactive platform for children and families to express ideas about wildlife conservation and connect with nature protection initiatives.
Dr. Sanjeet Kumar, Director of NZP, emphasized that modern zoos function as centers for conservation, learning, research, and inspiration rather than merely as places to view animals. He highlighted the park's commitment to wildlife conservation, animal welfare, biodiversity protection, and public engagement, inviting citizens to learn about biodiversity and become ambassadors for nature through responsible choices.
The park also conducted its 19th edition of 'Sunday Bird Walk @ NZP' from 7:30 AM to 10:30 AM on the same day, guided by ornithologist Dr. Paritosh Ahmed with volunteer support. The event attracted 18 participants including bird enthusiasts, nature lovers, students, and wildlife photographers who recorded 46 bird species and observed over 500 individual birds in the designated area. The walk contributed to biodiversity documentation and provided practical citizen science engagement, with experts sharing insights on bird ecology, behavior, and conservation value as ecological indicators.
The Director noted that these nature walks strengthen field-identification skills, deepen understanding of ecological relationships and food webs, and foster wildlife conservation appreciation. Participation is limited to 20-25 people per walk with mandatory prior registration on a first-come, first-served basis through the NZP website or mobile application weekly from Monday to Friday.
