The Ministry of Road Transport & Highways announced the completion and inauguration of the Indora Chowk-Dighori Flyover in Nagpur, a significant infrastructure project executed by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) at a cost of approximately ₹1,000 crore. The 8.9-kilometer flyover on National Highway No. 353D connects northern and southern Nagpur and represents a major transportation breakthrough for the city.
Union Minister Nitin Gadkari highlighted the innovative construction technology employed, using Ultra High Performance Fibre Reinforced Concrete (UHPFRC), which enabled longer spans between piers with fewer supports and accelerated construction timelines. The most significant operational impact is the dramatic reduction in travel time between Indora and Dighori from approximately 1 hour to just 10-15 minutes.
The flyover features comprehensive connectivity solutions, including connections to five directions at Ashok Square where an Ashoka Pillar has been installed with Constitution-themed murals and illumination. Strategic ramps have been provided at Daga Hospital, Reshimbagh Chowk, and Bada Tajbagh to alleviate traffic congestion in densely populated areas like Gandhibagh and Pachpaoli. An elevated passage over the Metro corridor at Agrasen Chowk facilitates multi-lane traffic movement similar to arrangements on Wardha Road and Kamptee Road.
Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis announced that the flyover will be named after Dr. Keshav Baliram Hedgewar, founding Sarsanghchalak of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, to mark the organization's centenary year. Fadnavis outlined Nagpur's broader development vision, noting that the city currently has 35 flyovers with another 15 proposed, contributing to integrated urban development. A 148-kilometre Golden Arch Ring Road is being developed around Nagpur to facilitate city expansion, and a 'New Nagpur' with a Centre for Business District is being created as an investment hub, with land acquisition underway and expected employment generation for youth.
Nagpur Guardian Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule emphasized that the flyover will benefit not only northern and southern Nagpur but also improve connectivity to rural areas including Hudkeshwar, Narsala, Besa, and Pipala. During the inauguration ceremony, NHAI officials and representatives of project contractor NCC Limited (Nagarjuna Construction Company) were felicitated by Gadkari and Fadnavis.
