The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has significantly expanded its digital FASTag Local Pass facility to 121 toll plazas across the country, marking a major step in digitalizing toll collection services. This initiative aligns with the Government of India's Digital India vision and aims to enhance ease of living for citizens by making national highway travel more seamless and citizen-centric.
The online Local Pass enables eligible commuters residing within a 20 km radius of eligible toll plazas to purchase monthly passes digitally through the Rajmargyatra Mobile App, eliminating the need for physical visits to toll plazas and manual submission of supporting documents. The facility leverages consent-based integration with government digital platforms including DigiLocker and VAHAN to retrieve and verify residential address and vehicle details, while GIS-based verification ensures the applicant's registered address falls within the prescribed 20 km radius.
The program was first launched in July 2026 at the Mundka-Bakkarwala Toll Plaza on Urban Extension Road-II (UER-II) in Delhi, and following successful rollout, has now been expanded to over 120 additional toll plazas nationwide. NHAI plans to extend the facility to more toll plazas across the country in the coming months. The digital system reduces scope for manual intervention, ensures greater consistency and transparency in eligibility determination, and streamlines the delivery of local toll services to eligible commuters who can undertake unlimited travel through their respective toll plaza during the month.
