NHAI Implements Multi-Lane Free Flow Tolling at Shahjahanpur Plaza

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has successfully launched the Multi-Lane Free Flow (MLFF) tolling system at Shahjahanpur Toll Plaza on the Delhi-Jaipur section of NH-48 in Rajasthan. This implementation marks a significant milestone in transforming the busy Delhi-Jaipur corridor, making travel from Manesar to Jaipur completely barrier-free and seamless for National Highway users. Shahjahanpur becomes the third toll plaza after Daulatpura and Manoharpura to adopt MLFF technology on this corridor.

The MLFF framework introduces barrier-less tolling with minimal human intervention, allowing vehicles to pass through toll locations without stopping, ensuring uninterrupted traffic flow. The system integrates Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) technology with FASTag-based Electronic Toll Collection to facilitate automated user fee collection. This initiative aligns with the Government of India's vision of delivering citizen-centric services by leveraging technology to enhance Ease of Living and Ease of Doing Business.

For seamless MLFF operation, users must maintain sufficient balance in their FASTag accounts. In cases of insufficient FASTag balance, invalid or nonfunctional FASTag, users are issued an Electronic Notice (E-Notice) for non-payment of user fee. Such users are required to pay the normal user fee within 72 hours of receiving the E-Notice. If users fail to comply after 72 hours, the user fee will be charged at twice the normal rate for their vehicle category. E-Notices can be accessed and paid through the designated portal at https://nhfeenotice.parivahan.gov.in/#/.

The implementation of MLFF has strengthened the tolling ecosystem by enhancing transparency, reducing operational costs associated with physical toll plazas, and improving overall efficiency in toll operations across the country. The system provides commuters with zero waiting time, enhanced fuel efficiency, and reduced vehicular emissions at toll locations.
