The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), India in collaboration with the Ministry of External Affairs is organizing a six-day Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation (ITEC) Executive Capacity Building Programme on human rights for senior-level functionaries of National Human Rights Institutions (NHRIs) of the Global South. The program will run from September 14th to 19th, 2026 in New Delhi and will be inaugurated by NHRC Chairperson Justice V. Ramasubramanian.
The program aims to strengthen capacities of participating NHRIs and facilitate exchange of experiences and good practices to promote cooperation in human rights advancement and protection. Forty-one senior-level functionaries from 15 NHRIs are expected to attend this customized program, which has been developed based on needs assessment and feedback from four previous ITEC capacity-building programs organized by the Commission.
The curriculum covers multiple themes including development of international human rights framework, contemporary human rights issues, human rights and business, impact of new technology on human rights, and sustainable development. Participants will gain insights into NHRC India's functioning, particularly its complaint management and investigation mechanisms, drawing on the Commission's three decades of experience.
The program includes interactive sessions with leading practitioners, cultural immersion activities, and field visits, providing opportunities for dialogue and exchange among NHRIs of the Global South. This initiative reflects NHRC India's commitment to strengthening human rights institutions and cooperation across the region through mutual learning and collaboration for advocacy, enforcement and institutional strengthening.
