The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), India concluded its two-week Online Short-Term Internship Programme (OSTI) for September 2026 on September 25, 2026. The program, which began on September 14, 2026, saw participation from 95 university-level students who were selected from 1,008 applicants across 19 states and union territories in India.
During the valedictory session chaired by NHRC Member Justice (Dr.) Bidyut Ranjan Sarangi, interns were congratulated on their successful completion of the program. Justice Sarangi emphasized that the training was a valuable learning experience and urged interns to practice the "Preach, Practice and Perform" approach to human rights throughout their lives. He encouraged compassion toward senior citizens and persons with disabilities, noting that young people carry expectations for societal development.
NHRC Member Smt. Vijaya Bharathi Sayani addressed the interns, stating that the program conclusion marked the beginning of new responsibilities. She emphasized that human rights encompass dignity, justice, compassion, and responsibility, and should become a way of life. Drawing on concepts of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam and Sarve Bhavantu Sukhinah, she urged interns to become human rights ambassadors guided by knowledge, compassion, and service.
NHRC Secretary General Shri Piyush Goyal highlighted the importance of developing sensitivity toward human dignity and translating academic learning into practice. He noted that team activities during the program helped inculcate team spirit and collaborative skills, and urged interns to become torch bearers of human rights awareness in society.
NHRC Joint Secretary Shri Samir Kumar presented an overview of the program, highlighting opportunities for interns to interact with NHRC Members, senior officers, eminent experts, academicians, Core Group members, and civil society representatives. The program included competitions for book review, group research project presentation, and declamation, with winners announced during the valedictory session. Smt. Monika Joon delivered the vote of thanks.
