National Institute for MSMEs Capacity Building Achievements

The National Institute for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (ni-msme), an autonomous institute under the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, Government of India, has reported significant achievements in strengthening India's MSME ecosystem through capacity building, entrepreneurship development, and digital empowerment initiatives. The 66-year-old institute, accredited with a "UTKRISHT" 3-Star Rating by the Capacity Building Commission, has evolved from its establishment in 1960 as CIETI to its current form as ni-msme since 2007.

Training and Development Metrics

ni-msme conducted 550 international training programmes that trained 11,032 executives from 150 countries, while domestically, the institute organized 17,672 programmes benefiting 607,497 participants. In skill development specifically, 6,840 programmes were conducted training 210,062 youth. The institute has also implemented 27 MSME cluster projects and provided 235 services through Intellectual Property Facilitation Centres (IPFCs). Additionally, ni-msme completed 962 research studies to support MSME development and policymaking.

Digital Transformation Initiatives

The institute has been actively engaged in emerging areas of enterprise development including digital marketing, e-commerce, artificial intelligence, technology-enabled manufacturing, intellectual property rights, green energy, and sustainable enterprise practices. In March 2026, ni-msme organized a national conference on Digital Marketing, AI Automation and e-Commerce, followed by another national conference on Digital Enabled Factories with Industry 5.0, focusing on artificial intelligence, Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT), and cloud technologies.

Success Case Studies

Two specific success stories demonstrate ni-msme's impact: Amarchintha Handloom Weavers Producer Company Ltd. in Wanaparthy, Telangana, achieved a landmark ₹16 lakh order through Google and increased annual turnover to ₹2.8 crore after digital marketing training supported by NABARD. In another case, woman entrepreneur Sunkishala Swarupa from Shayampet, Telangana, achieved a 10-fold growth in monthly turnover from ₹20,000 to ₹2 lakh after digital empowerment training, while creating employment for local women. Both cases involved five-day training programmes at ni-msme followed by one year of handholding support.
