Overview
NICMAR, India’s premier institute for Construction, Real Estate, Infrastructure and Project Management (CRIP) education, hosted the Grand Finale of the inaugural Bharat Nav‑Nirmaan Challenge 2025‑26 at the JW Marriott in Mumbai. The event, launched in December 2025 and supported by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), concluded a nationwide innovation competition that engaged more than 20,000 civil‑engineering, architecture and core‑engineering students from over 500 colleges across the country.
Competition Structure
The challenge progressed through college‑level rounds, city‑wide contests in eleven cities, and three regional finales. The top three regional teams earned the right to compete in the national Grand Finale.
Participants and Winners
Regional winners representing IIT Delhi, Maturi Venkata Subba Rao Engineering College and Pimpri Chinchwad College of Engineering arrived in Mumbai for the final showdown. After a rigorous evaluation by an eminent jury of industry leaders and academicians, Pimpri Chinchwad College of Engineering secured the overall title. The winning team received a Global Infrastructure Excellence Tour and a share of the total prize pool amounting to INR 30 lakh.
Chief Guest Remarks
Union Minister Shri Nitin Gadkari, Minister of Road Transport & Highways, addressed the gathering as chief guest. He stressed that futuristic development hinges on futuristic research, urging students to focus on need‑based research that reduces construction costs without compromising quality. Gadkari highlighted the potential of pre‑cast and tunnelling technologies, called for a pre‑cast compound wall design, and praised NICMAR’s role in fostering such innovation.
NICMAR Leadership Commentary
Mr. Ajit Gulabchand, Chairman of the Board of Trustees and Board of Governors of NICMAR, remarked that as India enters a critical phase of infrastructure development, talent will be the nation’s greatest asset, surpassing capital or technology. He described the Bharat Nav‑Nirmaan Challenge as a platform that transforms learners into problem‑solvers by exposing them to real‑world infrastructure challenges and encouraging interdisciplinary innovation.
Industry‑Academia Conclave
Alongside the competition, NICMAR convened an Industry‑Academia Conclave that brought together policymakers, industry leaders and academicians. Discussions centered on strengthening academia‑industry collaboration, accelerating technology adoption, and promoting sustainable, resilient infrastructure. The conclave reiterated the need for a future‑ready talent pipeline to meet the evolving demands of the CRIP sector.
