Market Overview

India’s equity markets closed higher on Thursday, with the Nifty 50 index rising 0.34% and the BSE Sensex 30 gaining 0.31% at the close.

Index Performance

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones by 1,945 to 594, with 59 stocks unchanged on the NSE. On the BSE, 2,720 stocks rose, 1,255 fell and 165 remained unchanged.

Top Gainers and Losers

  • Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd was the standout performer, climbing 2.58% to 1,937.00 on the NSE and 2.65% to 1,938.00 on the BSE, reaching 52‑week highs.
  • Bharti Airtel Ltd added 2.49% (47.00 points) to finish at 1,935.10 on the NSE.
  • Bajaj Finserv Ltd rose 2.38% (44.10 points) to 1,899.00 on the NSE and 2.39% to the same level on the BSE.
  • IndusInd Bank Ltd gained 2.47% to settle at 1,018.70 on the BSE.
  • Dr Reddy’s Laboratories Ltd fell sharply, dropping 5.74% (77.50 points) to 1,271.50 on the NSE.
  • Maruti Suzuki India Ltd declined 1.73% (241.00 points) to 13,710.00 on the NSE and 1.65% to 13,714.50 on the BSE.
  • Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd slipped 1.42% (3.51 points) to 243.49 on the NSE.
  • NTPC Ltd lost 1.18% to settle at 344.65 on the BSE.
  • Infosys Ltd was down 1.18% to 1,056.75 on the BSE.

Sector Highlights

Gains were led by the Real Estate, Capital Goods and Consumer Durables sectors, while the Pharmaceutical, Automotive and Energy stocks contributed to the declines.

Volatility and Commodities

The India VIX, measuring implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, dropped 9.62% to 13.27. Gold futures for August delivery rose 0.74% to $4,112.80 per ounce. Crude oil for August delivery increased 0.42% to $73.83 per barrel, and the September Brent contract rose 0.50% to $78.41 per barrel.

Currency and Futures

The USD/INR exchange rate edged up 0.01% to 95.56, while EUR/INR fell 0.09% to 109.01. The US Dollar Index Futures were marginally higher, up 0.01% at 100.77.
