The Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers' Department of Pharmaceuticals provided official information about the status of National Institutes of Pharmaceutical Education and Research (NIPERs). These seven institutes are recognized as premier institutions for education and research in the pharmaceutical and medical device sectors.
The first NIPER was established at Mohali, Punjab as a registered society under the Societies Registration Act, 1860, and later granted statutory recognition through the NIPER Act, 1998. Following an amendment to the Act in 2007, six additional NIPERs were established at Ahmedabad (Gujarat), Guwahati (Assam), Hajipur (Bihar), Hyderabad (Telangana), Kolkata (West Bengal), and Raebareli (Uttar Pradesh). All seven institutions have been given statutory recognition under the NIPER Act, 1998 and declared as Institutions of National Importance.
