The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) through its National Internet Exchange of India (NIXI) is hosting the 62nd APNIC Conference (APNIC 62) in Mumbai from September 4 to 10, 2026, in collaboration with the Internet Service Providers Association of India (ISPAI) and with support from the Government of Maharashtra. The event brings together more than 600 Internet experts, policymakers, and technology leaders from the Asia Pacific region to address critical challenges in Internet infrastructure, with particular focus on Artificial Intelligence (AI), cybersecurity, network automation, routing security, and Internet governance issues.
Key participants include distinguished guests Shri S. Krishnan, Secretary of MeitY, and Shri Rajesh Aggarwal, Chief Secretary of the Government of Maharashtra. The conference features technical workshops, policy meetings, and community events aimed at strengthening regional cooperation for a secure and resilient Internet. On September 8, 2026, NIXI and APNIC will sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to enhance deployment of key Internet infrastructure technologies, specifically IPv6 and routing security, which will contribute to strengthening the security, resilience, and long-term development of India's Internet infrastructure.
The opening ceremony includes keynotes from Lightstorm Group CEO and Managing Director Amajit Gupta on AI-driven network automation, and JPCERT/CC's Yukako Uchida on the role of trust and cooperation in cybersecurity. Officials highlighted India's leadership in IPv6 adoption as a model for the region, with APNIC Director General Jia Rong Low noting that Mumbai provides a natural venue for sharing India's experience in digital infrastructure growth. The event serves as a platform for practical knowledge exchange and technical cooperation among network operators and Internet service providers facing rapidly growing demand for reliable, secure connectivity.
