The National Mission for Clean Ganga (NMCG), under the Department of Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation, Ministry of Jal Shakti, organized celebrations for the 12th International Day of Yoga on June 21, 2026. The main event was held in New Delhi and was attended by Secretary of Water Resources Shri V. L. Kantha Rao and Secretary of Drinking Water and Sanitation Shri Ashok K. K. Meena, along with ministry officials, Yamuna Task Force members, NGO representatives, school children from Project Eco Roots Foundation, and local community volunteers.

Parallel celebrations were conducted across the Ganga basin through the participation of State Programme Management Groups (SPMGs), District Ganga Committees (DGCs), Ganga Praharis, educational institutions, and local communities at various ghats, riverfronts, and water body locations. The 2026 theme was 'Yoga for Healthy Ageing', emphasizing yoga's role in promoting physical, mental, and emotional well-being across all age groups.

Participants performed yoga asanas and breathing exercises following the Common Yoga Protocol. The event also included a plantation drive under the nationwide campaign 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam', symbolizing commitment to environmental conservation, ecological restoration, and sustainable living. The celebrations highlighted the intrinsic connection between personal well-being and ecological health, noting that yoga promotes balance and harmony with nature while plantation activities contribute to improved river health through enhanced green cover, reduced soil erosion, strengthened riverbank ecosystems, and supported groundwater recharge.
