OPEC+ Production Increase for September 2026
On Sunday, OPEC+ disclosed that its seven core members – Saudi Arabia, Russia, Iraq, Kuwait, Kazakhstan, Algeria and Oman – have agreed to raise oil output by 188,000 barrels per day starting in September. The decision, taken during a virtual meeting of the seven nations, is framed as part of ongoing efforts to maintain market stability.
The additional 188,000 bpd will be drawn from the voluntary production adjustments that were first announced in April 2023. By implementing this increase, the participating countries aim to accelerate compensation for previous production levels and to bring the group into full conformity with the Declaration of Cooperation. The Declaration includes the extra voluntary adjustments, whose compliance will be overseen by the Joint Ministerial Monitoring Committee.
Furthermore, the seven countries affirmed their intention to fully compensate for any volumes produced above the agreed levels since January 2024. This hike finalises the phased rollback of the 1.65 million bpd voluntary supply cut originally agreed in 2023, a cut that at the time also included the United Arab Emirates as a member. The UAE exited OPEC in May 2026, adding structural complexity to quota negotiations as the alliance moves to close this chapter of its supply‑management framework.
