The Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers provided an operational progress report for the Pradhan Mantri Bharatiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana (PMBJP) in Bihar during financial year 2025-26. The scheme achieved significant penetration with 410 Jan Aushadhi Kendras opened, including 309 in rural areas and 3 within government hospitals, demonstrating focused expansion into underserved regions.
Financial performance showed robust results with total sales of ₹219.18 crore recorded in Bihar, which translated to estimated citizen savings of approximately ₹876.72 crore during the period, representing a 4x multiplier effect on savings compared to sales value. The scheme also addressed menstrual hygiene accessibility by selling over 1.17 crore Jan Aushadhi Suvidha Sanitary Napkins at the highly subsidized price of ₹1 per pad through these Kendras.
Supply chain management features several operational enhancements. Since September 2024, Kendras have been incentivized to maintain stocks of 200 commonly used medicines (comprising 100 top-selling scheme medicines and 100 fast-selling market medicines) with monthly incentives based on maintained inventory levels. An end-to-end IT-enabled supply chain connects five warehouses and 42 distributors nationwide. Additionally, PMBI regularly monitors 400 fast-moving products and employs continuous demand estimation, with ongoing digitization efforts to augment the procurement process.
The Ministry confirmed that there is no current proposal to establish a regional warehouse in Bihar, despite the state's significant operational scale. Continuous monitoring of stock availability is undertaken with timely corrective measures implemented to minimize shortages and ensure uninterrupted availability of essential medicines across the country, including Bihar.
