Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi addressed the 57th Convocation Ceremony of IIT Delhi on August 8, 2026, emphasizing the critical role of youth in India's development journey. The PM highlighted that India is working towards becoming self-reliant in every sector including economic, technological, and industrial self-reliance, which forms the strong foundation of Viksit Bharat.
Modi outlined several emerging sectors providing opportunities for youth, including the Space Sector where young engineers are now designing and launching rockets following government reforms. In semiconductor manufacturing, initial production units are already operational despite past skepticism. The Drone Sector is revolutionizing fields from agriculture and medical delivery to national defense.
The Prime Minister credited the current generation for powering India's Startup Revolution, noting the economic momentum generated by unicorns, digital payments, and the FinTech boom. He identified future technological frontiers including Artificial Intelligence, Data Centers, Critical Minerals, Deep Sea Exploration, Quantum Computing, and Energy Security as areas waiting for youth talent and innovation.
The government is supporting advanced research through the Prime Minister's Research Fellowship and the establishment of the Anusandhan National Research Foundation with a funding target of up to ₹1 lakh crore. The 'One Nation One Subscription' program ensures access to global research journals even in small cities without extra costs.
Modi advised graduates to maintain curiosity and learning instincts, question accepted norms but also find solutions, and avoid comparing salaries or placements on social media. He emphasized that life's challenges operate 'out of syllabus' and success comes from identifying problems that society has complacently accepted.
