The Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers' Department of Pharmaceuticals reported significant progress under the Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana (PMBJP) scheme, with total sales at Maximum Retail Price reaching ₹4,274.66 crore during the last two financial years. Specifically, sales amounted to ₹2,022.47 crore in FY2024-25 and increased to ₹2,252.19 crore in FY2025-26, demonstrating growing adoption of the scheme.
As of June 30, 2026, a total of 77 Jan Aushadhi Kendras (JAKs) have been established in Himachal Pradesh, with district-wise distribution showing Kangra leading with 21 stores, followed by Mandi (13), Hamirpur (9), Una (8), Shimla (6), Solan (5), Bilaspur (4), Sirmaur (4), Chamba (3), Kullu (2), and one each in Kinnaur and Lahaul And Spiti districts.
The scheme's product basket has expanded to include 315 surgical items, medical consumables, and medical devices, with maximum retail prices set approximately 50% to 80% lower than comparable leading branded products, significantly enhancing medicine affordability for consumers. This information was formally provided by Minister of State for Chemicals and Fertilizers, Smt. Anupriya Patel, in a written reply to the Lok Sabha on August 7, 2026.
