The Ministry of Information & Broadcasting provided an update on public broadcasting infrastructure and editorial functioning in response to a parliamentary question. The government has approved and extended the Central Sector Scheme called Broadcasting Infrastructure and Network Development (BIND) for the development, modernization and upgradation of Prasar Bharati's broadcasting infrastructure until 31st March 2027. The scheme covers the period 2021-26 with extension through 2027, and details of funds allocated in the budget, actual expenditure, and revenue generation are available on Prasar Bharati's website.

Regarding editorial autonomy and functioning, the ministry reported that no grievances or formal representations were received from journalists, employees, or media bodies concerning autonomy, appointments, or editorial functioning of public broadcasters in the last year. However, 7 complaints regarding appointments were received from applicants. Editorial matters are regularly reviewed by the Editor-in-Chief and senior editorial teams, with guidance and corrective measures implemented when needed to improve quality, accuracy, balance, and presentation of news while ensuring compliance with Prasar Bharati's editorial policies and Programme Code.

The coverage statistics show Akashvani reaches approximately 98% of the population and about 90% of the country's area, while 'DD Free Dish' is available anywhere in the country without subscription charges. Prasar Bharati utilizes viewership data, audience feedback, and social media analytics to continuously improve the quality, content, and presentation of its news as part of its regular editorial process. Viewer complaints or feedback related to editorial content are forwarded to relevant editorial teams for appropriate action as per established policy.

The information was provided by Dr. L. Murugan, Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting and Parliamentary Affairs, in a written reply to questions asked by Adv. Priya Saroj and Shri Pushpendra Saroj in the Lok Sabha.
