President of India Smt Droupadi Murmu virtually flagged off the PBG Soldierathon from a ceremony held at the Forecourt of Rashtrapati Bhavan on August 2, 2026. The event was conducted in the presence of General (Dr) VK Singh (Retd), Governor of Mizoram, who serves as the patron of the initiative. During the ceremony, the President released a Special Postal Cover to commemorate the occasion, with the actual race venue being Cariappa Parade Ground in Delhi Cantonment.
The Soldierathon aims to strengthen the bond between civilians and the Armed Forces under the vision of 'Run for Soldiers, Run with Soldiers.' The event is centered on the theme 'Supporting Real Heroes – the Armed Forces of India' and serves as a tribute to the dedication, courage and sacrifice of Indian soldiers while encouraging citizens to express solidarity through participation.
The race is organized in three distance categories: 3Km, 5Km, and 10Km. Proceeds from the Soldierathon are utilized to support the Paraplegic Rehabilitation Centre of Armed Forces and welfare programs for wards of battle casualties. Additionally, the PBG Soldierathon intends to support the horses and troops of the President's Bodyguards unit.
