President Droupadi Murmu addressed the India-Romania Business Forum in Bucharest on July 24, 2026, in the presence of Romanian President Nicușor Dan, members of the Romanian government, and business leaders from both countries. The President emphasized Romania's strategic value as a partner due to its location at the crossroads of Europe, skilled human resources, advanced industrial capabilities, and strong EU integration, positioning it as both an investment destination and gateway to European markets.
The address highlighted the central importance of trade and economic cooperation, specifically referencing the India-EU Free Trade Agreement (FTA) that encompasses a combined market of nearly two billion people and an economic size of approximately $25 trillion. President Murmu stressed that the FTA aims to deepen trade integration, strengthen investment flows, and build resilient supply chains, with early implementation being crucial for providing business predictability and creating opportunities for MSMEs, startups, and innovators in both regions.
President Murmu presented India's 'Viksit Bharat 2047' vision to transform into a developed nation by its independence centenary, creating immense opportunities for international partnerships, investment, and technology collaboration. She noted India's initiatives to create a transparent, predictable, and investor-friendly environment through simplified taxation and production-linked incentives.
Specific sectoral collaboration opportunities were identified, including energy security and green transition, chemicals and fertilizers (leveraging Romania's capabilities), digital public infrastructure and IT (complementing Romania's software engineering and cybersecurity strengths), transportation and logistics (ports, railways, highways, logistics parks), and additional cooperation in pharmaceuticals, healthcare, agriculture, and food processing. The President urged Romanian companies to actively participate in India's growth story to build resilient supply chains, generate employment, promote innovation, and create sustainable prosperity.
