President of India Droupadi Murmu, along with North Macedonian President Gordana Siljanovska-Davkova, unveiled a bust of Mahatma Gandhi at the Museum of the City of Skopje on July 22, 2026. President Murmu stated that Gandhi's message of dialogue, compassion, and peaceful coexistence remains profoundly relevant in a world facing conflict, intolerance, and division. She emphasized that the bust will serve as a lasting symbol of friendship between India and North Macedonia and their common commitment to peace, tolerance, and humanity.
The event was attended by Skopje Mayor Orce Gjorgjievski and Indian delegation members including Minister of State for Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution Nimuben Jayantibhai Bambhaniya, and Members of Parliament Dr. Dinesh Sharma and Vijay Baghel. Earlier the same day, both presidents visited the Memorial of Mother Teresa in Skopje, noting her birthplace and connection to India where she received the Bharat Ratna in 1980. President Murmu is scheduled to depart for Bucharest, Romania on July 23, 2026, concluding her three-nation visit.
