Rajya Sabha Chairman Shri C.P. Radhakrishnan hosted a luncheon on October 27, 2026, for Presiding Officers and Leaders of Delegations of BRICS Member and Partner Countries participating in the 12th BRICS Parliamentary Forum at the Parliament of India in New Delhi. The event was attended by Lok Sabha Speaker Shri Om Birla, Hon'ble Speakers of BRICS and partner countries, Union Ministers, Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman Shri Harivansh, Secretaries-General of both Houses, and officials from BRICS nations.
Chairman Radhakrishnan emphasized that the gathering occurred at the historic nerve centre of India's parliamentary democracy, noting that democracy has deep roots in Indian history dating back to systems like Vaishali in the North and the "kudavolai" system of Chola rulers in the South, which makes Bharat the "Mother of Democracy."
Highlighting BRICS' growing significance, Radhakrishnan described the forum as a vital pillar of global cooperation where diverse cultures, rich histories, and dynamic economies converge with a shared commitment to building a balanced, inclusive, and prosperous world order. The discussions during the 12th BRICS Parliamentary Forum reflected collective determination to address global challenges through solidarity, dialogue, and mutual trust.
Recalling Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision from the September 2026 BRICS Summit, Radhakrishnan noted that BRICS countries are emerging as important centres for global innovation and solutions. He expressed confidence that the parliamentary forum would strengthen these efforts and create new possibilities for innovations across member and partner countries.
The Chairman emphasized the cultural significance of the luncheon as more than formal courtesy—it represented genuine warmth and mutual respect in Indian tradition, allowing leaders to nurture human connections beyond policy and governance. The event aimed to provide delegates with informal idea exchange opportunities and deepen personal bonds through Indian hospitality and cuisine.
