Policy rates and liquidity

The RBI conducted repo and reverse repo operations on 1 September 2026. A 1‑day reverse repo of ₹2,59,846 crore and a 7‑day reverse repo of ₹1,14,320 crore were priced at 5.24% per annum. The Marginal Standing Facility (MSF) for a 1‑day tenor was offered at 5.50% for ₹130 crore, while the Standing Deposit Facility (SDF) for the same tenor was priced at 5.00% for ₹2,74,154 crore. Net liquidity injected from today’s operations amounted to a withdrawal of ₹6,48,190 crore.

Banking and credit

Cash reserves of scheduled commercial banks as of 1 September 2026 stood at ₹9,22,843.04 crore. The average daily cash reserve requirement (CRR) for the fortnight ending 15 September 2026 was ₹8,10,284 crore. Net durable liquidity, measured as surplus or deficit, was a surplus of ₹8,05,736 crore as of 15 August 2026.

Liquidity position (outstanding operations)

Outstanding reverse repo operations as of 31 August 2026 included a 15‑day tenor amounting to ₹1,34,625 crore at a rate of 5.24%. The net liquidity injected from outstanding operations, after accounting for repo, MSF and SDF positions, was a net absorption of ₹1,28,303.50 crore. Combining today’s and outstanding operations, the overall net liquidity injection was a withdrawal of ₹7,76,493.50 crore.
