Policy rates and liquidity

The weighted average lending rate (WALR) on fresh rupee loans of scheduled commercial banks (SCBs) was 8.53 % in June 2026, marginally higher than 8.51 % in May 2026. The WALR on outstanding rupee loans slipped to 8.96 % in June 2026 from 8.97 % in May 2026. The 1‑Year median Marginal Cost of Funds based Lending Rate (MCLR) stood at 8.60 % in July 2026, compared with 8.50 % in June 2026. The weighted average domestic term deposit rate (WADTDR) on fresh rupee term deposits rose to 5.99 % in June 2026 from 5.83 % in May 2026, while the rate on outstanding term deposits increased marginally to 6.58 % from 6.57 %.

Banking and credit

The WALR on both fresh and outstanding rupee loans showed a mixed movement across sectors in June 2026, indicating sector‑specific variations in pricing.
