REGEN 2026 Conference – BMAC Consensus Guidelines Unveiled
On September 9, 2026, the two‑day international conference on regenerative orthopaedics, REGEN 2026, opened at the Aurika by Lemon Tree venue in Mumbai, Maharashtra. The opening day featured the launch of the first internationally developed consensus guidelines for the clinical use of Bone Marrow Aspirate Concentrate (BMAC) in regenerative orthopaedics. The guidelines were produced through a collaborative effort involving leading experts from India, Europe, South America and the United States, aiming to provide an evidence‑based framework for clinical decision‑making and to bring greater consistency to BMAC practice.
Dr Sharmila Tulpule, Chairperson of REGEN 2026, also presented a new biological classification system for knee osteoarthritis that moves beyond the conventional Kellgren‑Lawrence radiographic grading and places greater emphasis on underlying biological factors. She stated that REGEN 2026 is intended to shift regenerative orthopaedics from promise to evidence‑based practice, and highlighted the importance of the BMAC guidelines as a step toward consistent, informed clinical decisions.
The conference gathered international experts including Prof Nicola Maffulli, Dr Fabio Sciarretta, Dr Nathan Katz, Dr Don Buford and Dr Massimo Piracci, alongside leading Indian specialists. Scientific sessions covered platelet‑rich plasma (PRP), BMAC, micro‑fat tissue (MFAT) and other orthobiologics, with detailed discussions on clinical evidence, patient selection criteria, treatment protocols and emerging regenerative technologies.
Dr Madhan Jeyaraman, Founder Director of the Agathisha Institute of Stem Cell and Regenerative Therapy, Chennai, emphasized that the international collaboration behind the BMAC guidelines creates a common, evidence‑led framework that can improve consistency in clinical decision‑making and BMAC application.
The event also included the American Board of Regenerative Medicine (ABRM) Convocation Ceremony, during which Indian practitioners were conferred Diplomate status. Niteen Tulpule, Treasurer of REGEN 2026, noted that this edition builds on the inaugural conference held in 2025 and that the global‑local expert collaboration enables the integration of worldwide evidence with Indian clinical experience.
REGEN 2026 is organised by the Suryodaya Foundation in association with the Advanced Regenerative Medicine Foundation (ARMF), the Navi Mumbai Orthopedic Association (NMOA) and the Maharashtra Orthopedic Association (MoA), with Orthobiologix Clinic serving as the Knowledge Partner.
