Sanchar Saathi Portal Achievements and Impact
The Department of Telecommunications' Sanchar Saathi portal has achieved significant milestones in combating telecom-related fraud since its launch in May 2023. The platform has recorded over 30 crore visits, reflecting strong citizen adoption of its fraud prevention tools. The portal provides multiple services including Chakshu for reporting suspicious communications, mobile connection verification, lost handset blocking, handset genuineness verification, international call reporting, and trusted contact verification for financial institutions.
Key operational achievements include the blocking of 60.96 lakh lost or stolen mobile handsets across all telecom networks in India, with 37.85 lakh handsets successfully traced and over 14 lakh handsets physically recovered through coordination with police authorities. The platform has resolved over 4 crore citizen requests to check and report mobile connections issued in their names, preventing potential misuse of unauthorized connections.
Through the Chakshu feature, citizens have submitted 12.80 lakh inputs on suspected fraud communications, leading to action in 59.82 lakh cases and the disconnection of more than 50 lakh mobile connections identified as being used for fraudulent activities. Citizen reports feed into the Financial Fraud Risk Indicator (FRI), which has helped prevent suspected cyber-fraud losses exceeding ₹5,000 crore by providing risk-based intelligence to banks, payment service providers, and law enforcement agencies.
The Sanchar Saathi ecosystem supports a coordinated approach with over 1,600 stakeholders connected through the Digital Intelligence Platform, enabling real-time sharing of fraud intelligence across telecom, financial, and law-enforcement systems. The platform is available in multiple formats including a web portal (www.sancharsaathi.gov.in) and a mobile application that has been downloaded over 2.8 crore times and supports 23 languages including English, Hindi, and 21 regional languages.
The Department of Telecommunications continues to urge citizens to use the portal for checking mobile connections in their name and reporting suspicious communications, while directing victims of cyber-crime to report through the official cyber-crime helpline 1930 or at https://www.cybercrime.gov.in.
