A fire broke out at Saudi Aramco’s Jazan refinery on Sunday and was extinguished early in the day by industrial firefighting teams, with the Energy Ministry confirming that no injuries were reported. The ministry did not disclose the cause of the blaze or the extent of any damage, stating only that authorities were completing the required procedures to manage the incident.
Refinery Capacity and Products
The Jazan complex can process up to 400,000 barrels of crude per day and produces gasoline, ultra‑low‑sulphur diesel, benzene and paraxylene. It remains unclear whether the fire caused equipment damage or disrupted production.
Recent Fire History and Regional Context
This incident marks at least the second fire at the facility within a month. Satellite imagery captured a storage tank burning in late July after Yemen’s Iran‑aligned Houthi movement claimed to have targeted Aramco installations in Jazan and Yanbu with missiles and drones. Those July attacks were the Houthis’ first strikes on Saudi oil sites since 2022 and expanded the regional conflict linked to the U.S.–Iran war. At that time, reports indicated damage at Jazan, though Saudi authorities did not provide a detailed assessment.

Geopolitical Tensions
Saudi officials have warned that Iran‑backed forces in Yemen and Iraq could launch coordinated attacks against energy facilities, ports and airports. Riyadh has subsequently signed a collective defence agreement with Turkey and Pakistan. Tensions remain elevated after the United Arab Emirates accused Iran of striking an ADNOC‑linked vessel in the Strait of Hormuz; ADNOC reported that its ships have faced 15 missile and drone attacks since the conflict began, resulting in one crew member killed and 20 injured.
