Union Minister for Communications and Development of North Eastern Region Jyotiraditya M. Scindia attended the 9th edition of the Northeast Students' Fest at Talkatora Stadium in New Delhi on September 4, 2026. The minister interacted with students and young people from across the Northeastern states during the event.
At the beginning of the event, Scindia expressed solidarity with the people of Nepal following devastating floods in the country. He led the audience in observing a two-minute silence in memory of the flood victims and prayed for those who lost their lives while expressing condolences to their families.
In his address, Scindia described the Northeast Students' Fest as a celebration of the region's vibrant culture, creativity and youth. He highlighted the role of organization My Home India in fostering national integration, social harmony and youth empowerment over the past 21 years. The initiative began as a "Home Away from Home" for students from the Northeast and has evolved into a national platform where young Indians celebrate both regional diversity and shared national bonds.
Scindia used the analogy of India's rivers - Ganga, Yamuna, Saraswati and Brahmaputra - emerging from different terrains but eventually coming together as one powerful force without losing their individual identities. He called the youth the real growth engine of the Northeast and builders of Viksit Bharat 2047, citing achievements of young talent from the region including athletes Mirabai Chanu and Lovlina Borgohain across sports, music, education, technology and innovation.
