EU Trade Commissioner Maros Sefcovic and US Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick agreed to accelerate discussions on steel derivatives during Sefcovic's Washington visit.
Both sides highlighted global steel overcapacity and considered ring‑fencing their steel sectors to trade on highly favorable terms.
Sefcovic also met US Secretary Bessent to discuss energy security, fertilizer supply disruptions, Africa's situation, and proposed pilot projects on critical minerals.
