Secretary of the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE), Ms. Debashree Mukherjee, IAS, inaugurated the Skills4Future EV & Green Skills Lab at the National Skill Training Institute (NSTI) in Bengaluru on September 17, 2026. This laboratory was established under Shell India's Skills4Future programme, which is a collaborative initiative involving Shell India, Directorate General of Training (DGT) under MSDE, and Edunet Foundation. The lab is designed to provide hands-on training in Electric Vehicle systems, battery technologies, diagnostics, safety practices, and other emerging green technologies to enhance employability in sustainable mobility and clean energy sectors.
The Skills4Future programme has achieved significant scale, impacting over 290 institutes across five states and training more than 70,000 learners. The programme has upskilled over 258 faculty members and established 20 Green Skills EV labs throughout the vocational education ecosystem. In Karnataka specifically, the programme has impacted 101 Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) and trained 9,113 students, demonstrating its substantial contribution to creating industry-ready talent for the state's growing green economy.
The initiative represents a strong industry-government collaboration aimed at preparing youth for emerging opportunities in green mobility, renewable energy, and sustainable technologies. The programme integrates industry-relevant curriculum, practical learning infrastructure, and placement-linked opportunities to bridge skill gaps and enable meaningful participation in emerging economic sectors. This effort supports the Government of India's vision of fostering a skilled workforce capable of supporting the country's transition toward green mobility and sustainable development.
