Union Minister for Rural Development and Agriculture & Farmers' Welfare, Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan, flagged off a special Metro train themed around India's freedom struggle at Central Secretariat Metro Station in New Delhi on August 27, 2026. The train showcases the lives, thoughts, and contributions of freedom fighters, revolutionaries, and other prominent personalities associated with India's independence movement.
During the event, Shri Chouhan stated that the initiative would provide Metro commuters an opportunity to learn about the country's freedom movement and the sacrifices made by national heroes. He emphasized that it would help acquaint the younger generation with this important historical chapter and inspire them with the courage and patriotism of those who fought for the nation. The Minister also wrote the patriotic words "Fairs will be held every year at the pyres of the martyrs" on the Metro train as a tribute to those who made the supreme sacrifice.
Shri Chouhan appreciated the initiative and thanked Prabhat Prakashan, the Managing Director of Delhi Metro, and the entire Metro team for their efforts in bringing the inspiring stories of India's freedom movement closer to the people. During the event, he was presented with books published by Prabhat Prakashan, including 'Apnaapan,' and books highlighting the journey and story of the Delhi Metro were also showcased.
