Telangana's 100-Day SBM-U 2.0 Campaign Achievements
Telangana advanced urban sanitation under Swachh Bharat Mission Urban 2.0 through a structured 100-Day Action Plan running from 2nd June to 10th September 2025, focusing on citizen engagement and behaviour change as fundamental pillars of its urban sanitation strategy. The campaign was formally launched with large-scale public mobilization involving 36,900 citizens participating in rallies spanning 250 km across Urban Local Bodies (ULBs), marking a strong expression of community ownership.
A core component involved targeted door-to-door sensitization drives that reached 27.09 lakh households across Telangana's urban areas, specifically promoting source segregation of waste and home composting practices to embed responsible waste management at the household level. Environmental initiatives included the 'Amrut Mitra – Women for Trees' program where 24,708 saplings were planted with participation from 10,704 women members of Self-Help Groups (SHGs), and on World Environment Day, 13,488 citizens participated in rallies covering 113 km across ULBs.
The campaign demonstrated significant focus on infrastructure maintenance with the cleaning of 18,351 km of stormwater drains and nallahs across the state to mitigate urban flooding, improve drainage efficiency, and reduce disease risks. Public health dimensions included sensitization of 15,02,819 homes as part of a seasonal disease prevention drive and cleaning of 621 drinking water overhead tanks to ensure safe drinking water access.
Frontline sanitation worker welfare was addressed through statewide health camps that provided medical check-ups and support services to 25,386 frontline sanitation staff. The campaign converged with livelihood and women's empowerment objectives through disbursement of ₹1,045.04 crore in loans to 8,546 SHGs, while SHG product showcases at street food festivals and melas generated sales worth ₹77.12 lakhs.
Building on this momentum, Telangana has launched a subsequent 99 Days Action Plan (March–June 2026) targeting deeper behaviour change and strengthened urban service delivery across sanitation, water supply, heat mitigation, citizen engagement, and governance reforms. This new initiative includes door-to-door awareness covering over 6.5 lakh households, Swachhata rallies, 194 cleanliness drives, Sunday Funday activities with health camps for sanitation workers, and pledge drives engaging over 22,482 citizens, reinforcing the state's citizen-led approach to urban development.
