The Ministry of Textiles organized workshops on Cyber Security & Secure Digital Disposal and E-Waste Management Awareness on 15 October 2026 as part of Special Campaign 6, with participation from over 85 officials including all Nodal Officers.
The Cyber Security Awareness Session focused on emerging cyber threats including phishing attacks, malware, fraudulent WhatsApp messages, and digital arrest scams. Officials were advised on identifying suspicious emails, links, attachments, and messages, particularly those impersonating known contacts or seeking money, one-time passwords, or personal information. Participants were instructed to exercise caution with digital communications, refrain from clicking unknown links or downloading unverified files, avoid sharing sensitive information, and verify authenticity of suspicious communications before taking action. The session emphasized cyber hygiene, vigilance, and timely reporting of cyber incidents to safeguard official and personal information.
The E-Waste Management Awareness session addressed the adverse environmental impact of improper e-waste disposal, including soil and water contamination and release of hazardous substances that pose risks to human health and ecosystems. The session highlighted resource conservation through reuse, refurbishment, and recycling of electronic equipment to recover valuable materials, reduce raw material demand, and minimize landfill waste. Officials were made aware of the need for proper segregation, safe handling, and disposal of obsolete electronic and electrical equipment through authorized channels in accordance with applicable e-waste management rules. Specific equipment mentioned includes desktop computers, keyboards, photocopiers (Xerox machines), air purifiers, and electric hot cases that have reached end of life.
These initiatives reflect the Ministry's commitment to promoting cleaner workplace practices, responsible resource management, and secure digital environment. The Ministry has undertaken specific initiatives for collection and proper management of e-waste generated within its premises, emphasizing responsible disposal of obsolete and discarded electronic equipment in accordance with applicable guidelines. The workshops aimed to integrate environmental sustainability with cybersecurity awareness to advance the objectives of Special Campaign 6 through improved workplace practices, resource conservation, and enhanced digital safety.
