The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has released findings from an Independent Drive Test conducted on Munabao to Tanot National Highway (NH-70) in Rajasthan LSA during June 2026. The purpose of this assessment was to verify real-time quality of mobile network services (both voice and data) provided by Telecom Service Providers and inform general telecom consumers about network performance.
Test Methodology and Scope
The drive test was conducted on 3rd June 2026, covering 311.4 kilometers on NH-70 passing through Sundra, Myajlar, Gunjangarh, Bandha, Longewala, and Sadhawala. The testing was performed under the supervision of TRAI Regional Office Jaipur using multiple advanced test handsets that established live data and voice sessions using SIM cards from all TSPs across 2G, 3G, 4G, and 5G networks. The observations represent performance on the specific test route during the time of testing.
Key Performance Metrics
Coverage Gap Analysis: The assessment measured signal strength below minimum prescribed levels for respective technologies. Airtel showed 5,728 out of 14,130 samples with no coverage and 5,271 with poor signal strength. BSNL recorded 8,509 out of 10,174 samples with no coverage and 793 with poor signal strength. RJIL (Jio) had 881 out of 14,701 samples with no coverage and 4,403 with poor signal strength. VIL (Vodafone Idea) showed 9,227 out of 11,286 samples with no coverage and 1,561 with poor signal strength.
Voice Service Quality: Dropped call rates were measured as the number of dropped calls out of successfully established calls. Airtel experienced 10 dropped calls out of 48 established calls, BSNL had 2 out of 6, RJIL recorded 3 out of 76, and VIL had 1 out of 8. Call silence instances (silence >3 seconds) were observed: Airtel 4 out of 32 calls, BSNL 2 out of 7, and RJIL 8 out of 68. VIL's call silence rate could not be captured due to non-availability of 4G/5G network.
Data Performance Metrics: Average download speeds showed significant variation among operators: Airtel (5G/4G) achieved 42.83 Mbps, BSNL (4G/3G/2G) recorded 3.49 Mbps, RJIL (5G/4G) led with 55.05 Mbps, while VIL (5G/4G/2G) showed the poorest performance at 0.35 Mbps. Upload performance followed a similar pattern: Airtel 14.03 Mbps, BSNL 2.80 Mbps, RJIL 7.01 Mbps, and VIL 0.75 Mbps.
Regulatory Actions and Disclosure
The findings have been shared with respective telecom service providers for taking necessary corrective actions. The detailed drive test report, including location-specific data and maps showing coverage gaps, dropped call locations, and call silence instances, has been made available on the TRAI website at www.trai.gov.in.
