TRAI Mobile Network Quality Assessment: Delhi-Agra Corridor

The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) released findings from its Independent Drive Test (IDT) conducted along the Delhi-Agra Highway and Agra-Delhi Railway routes under Delhi LSA during July 16-17, 2026. The assessment covered 183.4 km of highway driving and 188 km of railway route, including one hotspot location at The Food Street - Food Court - Yamuna Expressway - Vrindavan Cut. The tests were performed using multiple advanced handsets with SIM cards from all major Telecom Service Providers (TSPs) across 2G, 3G, 4G, and 5G networks, monitoring key Quality of Service parameters in real-time.

Highway Route Performance (Delhi to Agra via Yamuna Expressway)

Coverage gap analysis revealed significant disparities among providers: Airtel showed 180 poor signal samples out of 13,960 total (1.3% gap), BSNL 4,876 out of 12,619 (38.6% gap), RJIL 145 out of 13,268 (1.1% gap), and VIL 44 out of 13,327 (0.3% gap). Call drop rates were minimal for most providers: Airtel 2 drops out of 65 calls (3.1%), BSNL 16 out of 68 calls (23.5%), RJIL 1 out of 66 calls (1.5%), and VIL 0 out of 66 calls (0%). Call silence instances (>3 seconds) varied considerably: Airtel 16 instances across 63 calls, BSNL 2 across 57 calls, RJIL 0 across 68 calls, and VIL 18 across 68 calls.

Data performance on the highway route showed RJIL leading with 213.68 Mbps average download speed on 5G, followed by Airtel at 135.33 Mbps (5G), VIL at 46.48 Mbps (5G), and BSNL at 8.10 Mbps (4G). Upload speeds followed similar patterns: RJIL 20.62 Mbps, Airtel 17.62 Mbps, VIL 13.70 Mbps, and BSNL 3.38 Mbps.

Railway Route Performance (Agra to Delhi)

Coverage gaps on the railway route were more pronounced: Airtel 326 poor signals out of 11,709 samples (2.8%), BSNL 5,264 out of 10,895 (48.3%), RJIL 286 out of 11,697 (2.4%), and VIL 224 out of 11,728 (1.9%). Call drop rates remained low: Airtel 0 drops out of 60 calls, BSNL 12 out of 60 calls (20%), RJIL 3 out of 63 calls (4.8%), and VIL 2 out of 62 calls (3.2%).

Data download speeds on the railway route were lower than highway performance: RJIL 82.68 Mbps (5G), VIL 47.48 Mbps (5G), Airtel 44.23 Mbps (5G), and BSNL 9.99 Mbps (4G). Upload speeds showed: Airtel 13.32 Mbps, VIL 12.31 Mbps, RJIL 10.14 Mbps, and BSNL 5.07 Mbps.

The assessment covered specific geographical areas including Dankaur, Jewar, Tappal, Surir, Javara, Baldeo, Khandauli, Kuberpur on the highway route, and Raja Ki Mandi Junction, Mathura Junction, Chata, Kosi Kalan, Palwal, Ballabhgarh, Faridabad on the railway route. TRAI has shared the detailed findings with respective TSPs for necessary corrective actions and made full reports available on their website (www.trai.gov.in).
