The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) released findings from an Independent Drive Test conducted on Gandhidham to Santhalpur National Highway (NH-27) in Gujarat LSA during July 2026. The test covered 149.1 kilometers of the highway route passing through Bhachau, Lakadia, Palasava, and Adesar, supervised by TRAI's Regional Office Jaipur, using multiple advanced test handsets to assess real-time mobile network performance across 2G, 3G, 4G, and 5G networks.
Key performance metrics assessed included coverage gap, call drop rate, call setup success rate, call silence instances, and data download/upload throughput. Reliance Jio Infocomm Ltd (RJIL) demonstrated the strongest overall performance with zero dropped calls out of 86 attempts, only 1 call silence instance out of 82 calls, and the highest average download speed of 223.70 Mbps with 22.18 Mbps upload speed on 5G/4G networks.
Bharti Airtel showed solid performance with no dropped calls out of 85 attempts, 7 call silence instances out of 86 calls, and average download speed of 146.35 Mbps with 21.00 Mbps upload speed on 5G/4G networks. Vodafone Idea Ltd (VIL) had 1 dropped call out of 86 attempts, 5 call silence instances out of 83 calls, and average download speed of 23.76 Mbps with 13.00 Mbps upload speed on 5G/4G/2G networks.
Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) showed the weakest performance with 11 dropped calls out of 76 attempts, 9 call silence instances out of 67 calls, and the lowest average download speed of 20.23 Mbps with 6.35 Mbps upload speed on 4G/3G/2G networks. Coverage gap analysis revealed poor signal strength in 1253 out of 17251 samples for Airtel, 2246 out of 14269 for BSNL, 225 out of 17324 for RJIL, and 1239 out of 17241 for VIL.
The findings have been shared with respective telecom service providers for necessary corrective actions, and the detailed report is available on TRAI's website at www.trai.gov.in. The assessment represents network performance specifically on the tested route during the drive test conducted on July 1, 2026.
