The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has introduced a new free service allowing residents to add or update their email ID in Aadhaar directly through the Aadhaar App, eliminating the need to visit physical Aadhaar centers. This service, effective from July 1, 2026, will remain free for a period of six months as part of UIDAI's commitment to providing people-friendly digital services under the Digital India initiative towards a Viksit Bharat.
The service has seen significant adoption with over 250,000 email updates recorded within the first two days of availability. Linking email with Aadhaar provides enhanced security by enabling real-time email notifications whenever an Aadhaar authentication request is executed, improving transparency and allowing Aadhaar holders to stay informed about the use of their identity data.
The new Aadhaar App, available on both Android and iOS platforms, has already facilitated substantial updates with over 4 million mobile number updates and approximately 1 million address updates completed through the application. UIDAI encourages residents to download or update the Aadhaar App to access this email update feature along with other services designed to improve ease of living.
