UK banks and building societies reported a rise in secured household credit availability in Q1 2026 per BoE Credit Conditions Survey.
Lenders expect further increases in secured credit and unsecured credit availability, as well as higher demand for remortgaging, in Q2 2026.
Corporate credit availability remained flat overall, but small and large businesses saw slight demand upticks in Q1, with mixed Q2 outlooks.
Default rates rose slightly on secured household and unsecured loans in Q1, while spreads narrowed for secured and widened for unsecured loans.
