Union Minister for Heavy Industries & Steel Shri H.D. Kumaraswamy interacted with electric vehicle beneficiaries and distributors at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi on September 17, 2026. The event was organized by the Ministry of Heavy Industries to provide a platform for stakeholders to share experiences and insights on EV adoption. The interaction was attended by Secretary Kamran Rizvi, Additional Secretary Dr. Hanif Qureshi, senior ministry officials, and industry representatives including FADA President Sai Giridhar, SIAM Chairman Sushant Naik, and ACMA President Designate Anjali Singh.
Dr. Hanif Qureshi emphasized in his opening remarks that localisation is key to building a resilient and self-reliant automotive ecosystem, noting that initiatives such as PM E-DRIVE and PLI-Auto are supporting domestic manufacturing of critical EV components. Union Minister Kumaraswamy highlighted India's transformative journey toward sustainable and self-reliant electric mobility, reiterating the government's commitment to building an Atmanirbhar Bharat and achieving the vision of Viksit Bharat@2047.
The Minister specifically mentioned the PM E-DRIVE Scheme that supports EV adoption and charging infrastructure, along with the PLI-Auto and PLI-ACC schemes that strengthen domestic manufacturing of advanced automotive technologies and battery cells. He emphasized the need for an inclusive, affordable and economically sustainable transition to electric mobility supported by robust manufacturing, innovation and a strong ecosystem. Kumaraswamy called upon all stakeholders to work together to build a seamless, accessible and globally competitive electric mobility ecosystem aligned with India's national mission.
EV beneficiaries from across India shared ground-level experiences, including how electric two-wheelers support daily mobility and livelihood with lower running costs. Ms. Sunita Chaudhary, an e-3W driver, spoke about using an electric three-wheeler for her livelihood and the benefits of lower running costs and reduced driving fatigue. Other beneficiaries discussed the suitability of electric four-wheelers for everyday passenger mobility and cleaner transportation. All beneficiaries expressed confidence in continued government support and enabling policies to strengthen India's electric mobility ecosystem.
Secretary Kamran Rizvi highlighted India's rapid progress in electric mobility and mentioned key initiatives including FAME I & II, PLI Auto, PLI-ACC, PM E-DRIVE, PM-eBus Sewa, and the Rare Earth Permanent Magnet Scheme. He called upon industry to focus on cost competitiveness, technology and global capabilities. The programme reaffirmed the government's commitment to advancing India's Net Zero goals and promoting domestic manufacturing through development of a robust electric mobility ecosystem.
