Union Minister of Commerce and Industry Shri Piyush Goyal witnessed the live demonstration of UPI services at Eurobank headquarters in Athens, marking the operational launch of India's digital payment system in Greece through the Eurobank-NIPL partnership. The launch enables eligible customers in Greece to transfer money instantly, securely, and seamlessly with significantly reduced transaction costs compared to conventional money transfer methods.

Shri Goyal is leading a delegation of senior business leaders and officials to advance bilateral economic cooperation between India and Greece. His visit included a meeting with Eurobank's leadership team to discuss enhancing financial collaboration and exploring investment opportunities. The delegation participated in the India-Greece Business Council Meeting and Business Forum at the Athens Chamber of Commerce and Industry, where three sectoral roundtables were convened focusing on Infrastructure (Energy, Ports, Logistics, Shipbuilding, Warehousing, Trade, Gem & Jewellery), Digital Innovation & Defence, and Food Processing & Agriculture.

The business engagements saw participation from leaders from both countries, enabling focused discussions to identify synergies and explore collaboration avenues across diverse sectors. The day culminated in the India-Greece Business Summit attended by ministers from both nations and senior business leaders, which reaffirmed the shared vision of advancing trade, investment, and innovation-led growth. A networking reception provided opportunities for informal exchanges and strengthening institutional and personal ties between the two nations.

Minister Goyal stated that the growing global acceptance of UPI reflects trust in Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of building technology-led solutions that create value beyond borders and deepen partnerships for shared growth and prosperity. The engagements demonstrate strong momentum in India-Greece relations and highlight both sides' commitment to building a robust economic partnership.
