Vice-President of India Shri C. P. Radhakrishnan received a comprehensive briefing on July 13, 2026, from Raksha Rajya Mantri Shri Sanjay Seth and senior Ministry of Defence officials at Uprashtrapati Bhavan regarding the National Cadet Corps (NCC) and Sainik Schools. The presentation covered the NCC's growth into a nearly 20-lakh-strong youth organization, detailing its training programs and nation-building initiatives including Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat Camps, Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan, and Swachh Bharat Abhiyan. The Vice-President particularly appreciated the NCC's contribution to national integration and welcomed the establishment of the NCC Alumni Association.

Regarding Sainik Schools, the briefing covered both the functioning and expansion plans, including existing models and Public-Private Partnership (PPP) models. The Vice-President emphasized addressing the growing demand among students and parents by proposing that each state could aim to establish three to five Sainik Schools. He also suggested exploring the possibility of increasing the intake capacity of existing Sainik Schools to accommodate more students.

The Vice-President called for greater state participation to strengthen the NCC, emphasizing that infrastructure development and enhanced coordination with state governments on issues such as land allocation and training infrastructure are crucial. He described strengthening the NCC as a shared national responsibility and assured all possible support in engaging with state governments to achieve these objectives.
