Vice-President Shri C. P. Radhakrishnan addressed the Second Convocation of Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri National Sanskrit University in New Delhi on October 6, 2026. He emphasized Sanskrit's role as the "golden string" connecting India's many languages into one grand garland and stressed the need to preserve, study, interpret, and make ancient knowledge available to future generations.
The Vice-President highlighted the university's journey from a Sanskrit Vidyapeetha to a Central University and noted its achievement of securing the highest NAAC grade of A++. He commended the institution's research across diverse domains of Indian Knowledge Tradition, including its 44-year tradition of publishing the Vidyapeeth Panchang and teaching of classical disciplines such as Prakrit and Vastu Shastra.
Government initiatives under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership were highlighted, including the creation of a favorable ecosystem for Sanskrit's resurgence through the National Education Policy 2020 and the Ashtadashi scheme. The Gyan Bharatam Mission was specifically mentioned with a foundational corpus of ₹500 crore for manuscript preservation and documentation aimed at bringing India's vast manuscript heritage to national and global audiences.
The Vice-President urged scholars to undertake discovery, preservation, critical editing, and publication of unpublished Sanskrit manuscripts. He advised graduating students to remain lifelong learners, harness technology for Sanskrit preservation, avoid drugs and substance abuse, and use social media wisely while investing time in reading, learning, and skill development.
During the ceremony, the Vice-President released three publications: 'Amnaya Kalpataru', 'Vidyamitram', and 'Shodha Prabha' (July–September 2026), and presented gold medals to meritorious students. The event was attended by Union Minister of State for Education and DoNER Shri Sukanta Majumdar, University Vice-Chancellor Prof. Murli Manohar Pathak, and various scholars, faculty, and students.
