WHO Extends Pathogen‑Sharing Talks

WHO member states extended negotiations on pathogen-sharing rules, delaying implementation of the pandemic treaty adopted May 2025.
The Pathogen Access and Benefit-Sharing (PABS) annex, governing data and sample sharing and equitable vaccine access, remains unresolved.
WHO Director‑General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus urged urgent cooperation, warning the next pandemic is a matter of when, not if.
Final outcome will be presented to the World Health Assembly in May, leaving uncertainty on treaty’s effective date.
