Overview
Sungrow released a press statement on 9 September 2026, announcing its strategic vision for the next phase of the renewable‑energy transition. The remarks were made by Dr. Zhuang Cai, General Manager of the Product Business Center at Sungrow Energy Storage Business Unit, during a BloombergNEF‑hosted panel at the Hong Kong Green Tech Leadership Dialogue 2026. Dr. Cai was joined by senior executives from Stonepeak, EVE Energy and HSBC.
Flexibility Across Timescales
Dr. Cai emphasized that future power systems must deliver flexibility on multiple timescales—from seconds and minutes to hours, days and even seasonal periods. He noted that no single technology can satisfy every timescale or application, making a diversified technology mix indispensable.
Shift to Integrated, Scenario‑Based Solutions
The speaker highlighted a fundamental industry shift from supplying isolated equipment toward delivering integrated, scenario‑based energy solutions. He cited examples such as the combined deployment of photovoltaic generation with energy‑storage systems, and coordinated use of wind power, hydrogen and other emerging technologies tailored to specific application scenarios.
Technology Portfolio and Modularity
Cai explained that equipment manufacturers need a broader perspective, as different storage technologies—lithium‑ion batteries, flow batteries, compressed‑air storage and hydrogen‑based systems—address distinct technical and economic requirements. He advocated for modular, platform‑based storage architectures that act as interchangeable building blocks, allowing power, energy and control modules to be re‑configured for varied applications rather than being locked into a single technology pathway.
Deepening Software‑Hardware Integration
According to Dr. Cai, the next generation of energy infrastructure will require software to function as the “skeleton and blood” of the system. Software must become more diverse and scenario‑specific, enabling heterogeneous assets to communicate, coordinate and operate intelligently as a unified platform, thereby optimizing performance under changing operating conditions.
Global Expansion and Localization
The executive stressed that Chinese companies, including Sungrow, must pursue globalization to strengthen supply‑chain resilience and diversify geopolitical risk. Localization is portrayed as more than establishing overseas production or R&D; it also involves hiring local talent, complying with local regulations and ESG standards, and integrating into local communities and cultures. Transparent compliance, especially regarding data security and technology transfer, is presented as essential for building trust with overseas clients and partners.
