Project Commissioning Details
Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited (TPREL), a subsidiary of The Tata Power Company Limited, has commissioned its 190.5 MW Solar FDRE project at Kalasar, Bikaner, Rajasthan. This project is part of a larger 460 MW Firm and Dispatchable Renewable Energy (FDRE) Project under contractual capacity.
Project Structure and Offtakers
The 190.5 MW project has been developed under SJVN Firm and Dispatchable Renewable Energy (SJVN FDRE) Tranche-1. The project will supply energy to three discoms: Haryana Power Purchase Centre (HPPC), Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL), and Noida Power Company Limited (NPCL).
Technical Features
The project integrates large-scale solar generation with advanced energy storage and grid support technologies, including:
- 115 MWHr advanced Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) to strengthen grid reliability
- Harmonic Filter Bank technology
- Static Var Generator systems
Execution Challenges and Milestones
The project overcame several complex challenges including compressed project timelines and global supply chain disruptions affecting availability of transmission line materials, module mounting structures, and other critical equipment. Notable execution milestones include:
- Switchyard completion within three months
- Harmonic Filter Bank completion within one month
Capacity Update
With this project commissioning, TPREL's total renewable utility capacity has reached 12.4 GW, consisting of:
- 6.9 GW operational capacity (5.6 GW solar + 1.3 GW wind)
- 5.5 GW under various stages of implementation, expected to be commissioned in phases over the next 24 months
