The Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare has successfully formed 10,000 Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs) under the Central Sector Scheme for Formation and Promotion of 10,000 FPOs. The program has achieved significant gender inclusion with 1,175 FPOs established exclusively with women members, while women constitute approximately 40% of total shareholders across all FPOs. The scheme mandates that each FPO's Board of Directors or Governing Body must include at least one woman member.
All formed FPOs are operational and engaged in various agricultural activities including input supply, aggregation, procurement, value addition, and marketing of agricultural produce. Financial support has been widely utilized with 9,865 FPOs availing management cost assistance, 8,357 FPOs receiving equity grants, and 3,140 FPOs accessing credit guarantee facilities. Each FPO receives professional handholding support for five years from registration through designated Implementing Agencies, with additional support provided through Cluster-Based Business Organizations (CBBOs) for FPOs exhibiting low activity levels to improve functioning and ensure long-term sustainability.
The FPOs, formed since 2020-21, are at different stages of development and business operations, resulting in varying turnover figures dependent on their operational period and business scale. The cumulative turnover reported by all FPOs under the scheme reached ₹20,358 crore as of July 31, 2026. This information was formally disclosed by Minister of State for Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Shri Ramnath Thakur in a written reply to the Rajya Sabha.
