The Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment published a case study highlighting the impact of the National Fellowship for Scheduled Caste (NFSC) Students Scheme through the journey of Babli, a 32-year-old scholar from South East Delhi. Babli, coming from a lower-middle-income family, faced significant financial constraints that hindered her ability to pursue doctoral studies and academic career aspirations before receiving NFSC support.
In January 2021, Babli began receiving assistance under the NFSC Scheme totaling approximately ₹25 lakh, which included fellowship funds, House Rent Allowance, and contingency support. This financial assistance addressed her economic limitations and provided the stability required to focus on her Ph.D. studies and research objectives. The support not only provided financial relief but also helped ease broader social challenges associated with economic hardship.
The case study demonstrates how the NFSC Scheme enables Scheduled Caste scholars to overcome financial barriers and pursue advanced education. Babli has now achieved full-time employment and continues working toward her academic and research aspirations, with the fellowship having strengthened her professional confidence and provided the means to concentrate on long-term objectives.
