The Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment published a case study highlighting the impact of the National Fellowship for Scheduled Caste (SC) Students (NFSC) Scheme through the journey of Bhavesh A. Prabhakar from Ahmedabad, Gujarat. Prabhakar, coming from a family with limited financial resources, faced significant economic barriers that threatened his ability to undertake doctoral studies until he received fellowship assistance beginning in December 2019. The financial support eased his difficulties and allowed him to focus on pursuing his Ph.D. and building research skills without the constraints that might otherwise have limited his options.

Prabhakar is currently employed full-time while continuing his doctoral studies, and he explicitly stated that without the NFSC scholarship, he would not have been able to pursue his Ph.D. The case study illustrates how targeted fellowship support can reduce economic barriers and help students from economically weaker backgrounds pursue advanced studies and research opportunities. The NFSC Scheme specifically helped address his financial concerns and enabled greater devotion to education and research, supporting long-term educational and professional aspirations for SC students facing financial hardship.
